Mitsukoshi Theater

Mitsukoshi Theater was born in 1927 on the sixth floor of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store under the name Mitsukoshi Hall as the world’s first theater in a department store. When the Mitsukoshi Main Store was re-established after it was greatly damaged by the Great Kanto Earthquake, the theater was built with the concept of reconstruction of not only the building but also the cultural asset. Since then, various events such as mainly Onshukai (recital) of Japanese music, Buyokai (recital of dance), concerts, and lectures were held in the theater, and it was used for their customers’ service as a high-class place for social interaction. The theater has a proscenium arch stage of 12m wide and 6m deep, and the inside the theater is decorated with various styles.
